THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS

Healing is rarely a straight line it operates like a spiral. As you progress, you may revisit familiar challenges, but each time you do, you encounter them from a higher vantage point—equipped with greater insight, strength, and resilience. Here is how we navigate the stages of this therapeutic spiral together:

The Bottom Loop: Establishing Safety
> The Experience: You may enter therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or carrying heavy distress. Taking these first steps requires immense vulnerability.
> The Process: Our primary focus is establishing safety. We work to contain the distress, validate your experience, and begin gently unpacking your burdens at a pace your nervous system can handle.

The First Ascent: Initial Insight
> The Experience: As safety is established, relief sets in. You begin to feel a renewed sense of hope and energy for change.
> The Process: Trust solidifies. Together, we identify the underlying patterns and core beliefs keeping you stuck, connecting the dots between your past experiences and present challenges.

The Dip: Resistance and Integration
> The Experience: Growth is uncomfortable. You may experience temporary setbacks where old coping mechanisms resurface, making you feel like you are moving backward.
> The Process: This "dip" is not a failure it is a normal, vital part of deep healing. We gently explore the fear of letting go of old survival strategies, practicing self-compassion as we work through these hurdles.

The Higher Loop: Embodied Resilience
> The Experience: You notice shifts in your daily life. While challenges still arise, you react to them differently, experiencing self-compassion and confidence in your ability to self-regulate.
> The Process: We actively integrate your tools. You begin catching old patterns in real-time, consciously choosing healthier responses, and strengthening your resilience.

The Peak: Autonomy and Growth
> The Experience: You reach a vantage point of clarity, emotional freedom, and sustained confidence, fully recognizing how far you have climbed.
> The Process: We consolidate your gains, celebrate your transformation, and solidify the tools you need to maintain your well-being independently as you step forward into your life.

GETTING STARTED

We begin with a formal intake session to ensure you receive the highest standard of clinical care, safety, and confidentiality. My practice does not offer brief, informal consultation calls. Instead, our work begins with a comprehensive, formal intake session. While brief "discovery calls" are common, they fall short of the rigorous ethical and clinical standards required for safe, effective trauma and relational healing.

This structured approach is designed to protect, support, and respect your therapeutic journey from day one.

What to Expect: Your First Session
> Your initial intake is a collaborative, 50-to-60-minute clinical evaluation.

> Prior to our meeting, you will complete intake paperwork via a secure client portal.
> During the session, we will review this information, discuss your goals, and map out your personalized care.

Why This Structured Approach Matters
> Prioritizing Your Clinical & Somatic Safety Deep healing—especially when integrating EMDR, Brainspotting, or somatic processing—requires a thorough, paced understanding of your nervous system and history. A full intake ensures future interventions are safe, grounded, and tailored to you.
> Securing Legal and Ethical Privacy Protections Your privacy is paramount. Before you share sensitive aspects of your story, formal consent and HIPAA protections must be fully executed. A formal intake ensures your protected health information (PHI) is legally secured before any clinical dialogue begins.
> Formulating an Actionable Treatment Plan at intake is the active commencement of your therapy. This dedicated time allows us to immediately collaborate on a structured, personalized treatment plan, ensuring your emotional and financial investment is directed toward meaningful progress from the start.
> Ensuring the Right Level of Care & Safe Referrals I am ethically bound to practice within my scope of expertise. If our comprehensive evaluation reveals that your needs would be better served by a different specialist or modality, I will provide you with vetted professional referrals to ensure you are safely guided to the correct resources.
